  • Surya Yantra

The Sun initiates every Rājayoga. This is the instrument the tradition uses to work with it.

PlaySurya Yantra in copper and gold

|| तत् सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि | धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ||

|| tat saviturvareṇyaṁ bhargo devasya dhīmahi | dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt ||

Most yantras do nothing, and here is why

People buy a yantra, place it on a shelf, and wait.

A yantra that has not been activated is like an ATM card without the PIN. The object is correct. Nothing is going to come out of it.

Activation is not decoration and it is not a ceremony performed for effect. It is what turns a piece of engraved copper into an instrument — and how it is done depends on the chart of the person it is being activated for.

That is why a yantra bought casually online almost never changes anything, and why the people selling them rarely ask you a single question first.

What the Surya Yantra is

Sūrya initiates every Rājayoga — the classics are unanimous on this — and Chandra sustains what Sūrya begins. Father and mother, initiation and nourishment.

In this tradition the Surya Yantra is the instrument used to work with that. It is applied for focus and concentration, for standing in your field, and — for students of Jyotiṣa — as part of the practice of anyone working towards becoming a Raj Jyotiṣa.

Surya Yantra

How it is built

This is not an ornament with a sun on it. Every ring carries something.

The outer petals

The twenty-four akṣaras of the Gāyatrī Mantra.

The inner petals

The thirty-two akṣaras of the Bṛhaspati Mantra.

The inner core

The eight-petalled Aṣṭa Chara Kāraka — the eight moveable significators of a birth chart.

The absolute core

Ketu, which grants mokṣa. This is the activating nucleus, and it is where the power sits.

Whatever you install at the centre is what you are asking for. That is not a metaphor. It is how the instrument is used.

Where it goes, and what goes at the centre

At your altar

Place the image of Kṛṣṇa or Śiva, according to your tradition, at the centre. This is for spiritual Rājayoga.

In your office or home office

Place Gaṇeśa at the centre. Gaṇeśa rules the Pṛthvī tattva, which governs career and material standing.

Why most serious practitioners keep both

The two work on different levels — one on the soul, one on the world — and running them together initiates both.

Direction and placement

Where a yantra sits, and which way it faces, should be decided from your chart rather than a general rule. The same position that serves one person works against another, for exactly the reasons set out on the Vedic Vastu page.

Why this particular Surya Yantra

It comes from a lineage, not a catalogue

Its design follows the tradition of my Gurudev's parampara, drawn from Kṛṣṇa's teaching to Arjuna. It has been used in this line for centuries. I did not design it and I would not presume to — I was permitted to have it made as it has always been made.

Built to be used, not displayed

Pure copper with gold plating, so that daily abhiṣeka can be performed without the surface degrading. Cheaper pieces are not made for daily use and they show it within months.

It arrives with instructions

A step-by-step guide to installing, activating and maintaining it — at home, in an office, or both. The guide is the part that matters most, and it is the part nobody else supplies.

Also in this tradition

Vyāsa Yantra

For students, teachers and anyone in sustained study. It steadies the mind and supports sādhana, and it works alongside the Surya Yantra rather than instead of it. (I keep one above where I sit to teach.)

Śrī Yantra

The seat of prosperity. Associated with Śrīmanta yoga and with financial Rājayoga, and traditionally paired with the Surya Yantra.

On the fact that this page exists

You will have read elsewhere on this site that nothing is sold to you in a consultation. That is true, and it stays true.

No reading here has ever ended in a yantra being recommended so that one could be sold.

These pages exist because clients kept asking the same question — where do I get one that is properly made? — and because the honest answer was that most of what is sold is decorative. So they are made here, at cost and care rather than at scale, for the people who already know why they want one.

If you have not had a reading, you do not need this yet.

How to get one

Message the helpdesk. Tell us which yantra, and whether it is for an altar, an office, or both.

FAQs

Not strictly. But placement, direction and what goes at the centre are all decided from your chart, so a yantra installed without that reading is working at a fraction of its use.

Yes, and the guide takes you through it. Where a chart calls for something more involved, the in-house priests can perform it.

Two weeks after payment.

Yes.

USD 500, including shipment cost.
